Frenger are proud to announce that they have secured an order to design, manufacture and supply their X-Wing® Radiant Passive Chilled Beams c/w integrated LED luminaires to the Riverside House, Salford project (11,500 ft²) which is part of the New Bailey Masterplan which is being led by the English Cities Fund (a joint venture between Muse Developments, Legal & General and Homes England in conjunction with Salford City Council).

Due to its prominent position, Riverside House will provide a gateway to the new development. The original building which was a fine example of late Victorian Gothic architecture had sadly fallen into disrepair and dilapidation. The new development will use the footprint of the former building which occupies roughly half the site, and a new build addition, conceived as a mirror image of the old tavern, doubles this footprint to the south. The street facing facades of the original building will be retained and restored.

Frenger - Riverside House, Salford The new building will incorporate Frenger’s ‘Exposed’ X-Wing® Radiant Passive Chilled Beams in place of conventional air conditioning to deliver indoor cooling whilst maintaining high thermal comfort levels. X-Wing’s® 40% Radiant quotient not only helps to provide effective cooling to the floors but delivers an excellent indoor climate environment which is essential for employee wellbeing and performance. The products radiant quotient is approximately 40% of the total cooling effect, this proportion creates no air movement which offers high thermal comfort levels. The ability of the X-Wing® to cool using its radiant absorption means, when compared to an older fin coil passive type beam which is 95% convective, the X-Wing® product can deliver 40% more cooling without increasing the draught risk rating as only 60% of total cooling by air movement (convection).

Frenger’s X-Wing® is constructed from copper and aluminium and is 100% recyclable. The product is produced by Frenger’s in house fully automated bespoke “state of the art” full CNC machines and serpentine coil bending machine. This produces seamless sinusoidal copper coils for each X-Wing® unit from thousand-meter drums of copper tube without any joins in the copper, hence no risk of water leakage and fully repeatable and consistent high-quality production.

Frenger - Riverside House, Salford Frenger developed the integrated LED luminaries and complementary stand alone LED lighting (to supplement the lighting from the X-Wing® units) at their in-house Photometric Labs and integration chambers as Frenger often tailor their luminaries for MSCB (Multi-Service Chilled Beam) projects as most projects have different height to space ratios and different architectural aspirations.
